DIY My Little Pony: The Movie Costume Headbands & Flair!

This post is in partnership with Lionsgate.

Hey All!

I donā€™t know about you, but I used to loveeeeee My Little Pony when I was a kid. I had probably a hundred ponies and baby ponies! Do you remember the baby ponies? I loved the nursery toy I had for them. PonyĀ friends forever! Iā€™m thrilled to know they are still around today to share with my own family. I donā€™t know if youā€™d heard, but they have an amazing new movie coming out! Itā€™s called MyĀ LittleĀ Pony: The Movie! Itā€™s ā€œTHEā€ movie event ofĀ ponyĀ proportions! Pun intended and to celebrate Iā€™m thrilled to partner with Lionsgate on these DIY My Little Pony: The Movie Costume Headbands & Flair! I donā€™t know about you, but I need to dress up like my favorite ponies to go see the film.

Halloween is also coming up, so you can easily use these to dress up as youā€™re favorite pony this year. My favorite My Little Pony characters are Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, and Pinkie Pie. Why are they my favorite you ask? They have the best mane ever! Rainbow Dash slays it with that rainbow mane!

I needed to find a way that I could work that pony mane and these fun headband hairpieces are what I came up with. I also threw in a quick DIY to make some fun buttons out of their little themed cutie marks aka the little images you find on the side of a My Little Pony.

If you havenā€™t heard about the film, here is a little about the film below:

A dark force threatens Ponyville, and the Mane 6 ā€“ Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and Rarity ā€“ embark on an unforgettable journey beyond Equestria where they meet new friends and exciting challenges on a quest to use the magic of friendship to save their home.

The film has an all-star voice cast including Emily Blunt, Kristin Chenoweth, Liev Schreiber, Michael PeƱa, Sia, Taye Diggs, Uzo Aduba and Zoe Saldana. The movie features original music and songs performed by Sia, Diggs, Saldana, Chenoweth and Blunt. I canā€™t wait to see it and wear my pony main and flair to go see it. I also love me some Kristin Chenoweth and Zoe Saldana, so Iā€™m thrilled to know they are in it!

Here is how to make these My Little Pony Headbands and matching flair, so you can wear them to go see the movie too!

First you download our Free Printable With The My Little Pony Mane and Pins images. You then print out the mane/hair images onto your white

Carefully cut out the mane pieces and ears with your scissors. Keep the leftover scraps from the cardstock as you will use them too! Saving paper and trees folks!

Glue the ear piece onto the mane with a glue dot.

Then cut one of the scrap pieces into a long rectangular piece and then fold it into a triangle piece like you see below.

You glue the triangle piece close with a glue dot and then glue it onto the headband with a glue dot. Make sure the bottom of the triangle is facing out like you see below.

Lastly you glue your mane with pony ear on it and youā€™re done making a Twilight Sparkle headband! This is me giving My Little Pony face below. LOL!

You repeat the process to make the headbands for Rainbow Dashā€¦

Can you tell I love being in my Rainbow Dash mane? I slay in rainbow hair!

Loving it!

And donā€™t forget Pinkie Pie!

You can finish there or you can make some easy matching cutie mark pins. You simply print out the round cutie mark images from your printable onto printable ink jet white Shrink Film.

You cut out each image and bake them at 350 degrees on a baking sheet for 2-3 minutes until they become small and round. I recommend you line the baking sheet with parchment paper.

Take them out and let them cool. Use your glue gun to glue the bar pin backs to the back of the cutie mark disc and thatā€™s it! Youā€™ve got yourself some matching cutie mark pins to go with your headbands.

How cute are these folks?

The pins do come out a bit darker in color than they are supposed to be, but they are still super cute and totally show off that pony power!

I hope you love these My Little Pony DIYā€™s and the movie just as much as I do!

I canā€™t wait to see lots of people working their My Little Pony headbands for Halloween with matching flair!

Twilight Sparkle was my fav pony too. They have tv series that I occasionally watch with my nieces. The pins turned out great in the vivid pictures.

  • This sounds like a fun project to enjoy with a little girl. The headband look delightful. I can hear everyone cooing and ahing about it all day. I don’t have any little ones in my circle but if I did, this would sure be nice to enjoy with her.
