Enjoy Some Tasty Dunkin’ Donuts, Lattes & A Chocolate Truffle Recipe!

Dunkin-Donuts

Hey All!

I recently had the amazing opportunity to visit one of my favorite donut shops Dunkin’ Donuts to pick up some amazing donuts for Valentine’s Day. I also got the opportunity to sit down and chat with Chef Heidi Curry of Dunkin’ Donuts.

Before we chatted I had to bask in all the amazing donuts that were surrounding me of course. I also had to restrain myself from eating them all. As you all know I’m from New York and grew up eating Dunkin’ Donuts as they are on every corner in NYC. It was the one donut shop I always missed here in California until they finally opened a shop here in Santa Monica. I cried when that day happened.

Chef Heidi Curry has been a member of the Dunkin’ Brands R&D team for seven years. Heidi’s role on the Culinary R&D team at Dunkin’ Brands has allowed her to combine her love of food with her interest in science and experimentation. Throughout her career at Dunkin’, she has had the opportunity to work on all three development teams for Dunkin’ Donuts, beginning her career on the Beverage R&D team. While on the Beverage R&D team, she developed new Coolatta® frozen drinks, Hot Chocolate flavors and flavor syrups for coffee and espresso-based beverages. Heidi then continued as a developer on the Savory R&D team, where she helped develop new sandwiches for both the AM and PM categories.

For the last several years, Heidi has led the Bakery R&D team as Sr. Manager, where with her team she has created new menu items for Dunkin’ Donuts guests including the Croissant Donut and Chocolate Croissant.

I chatted with Chef Heidi about everything from how they create the recipes for the new donuts and flavors for all the products they offer to some amazing recipes they are creating and showcasing on the Dunkin’ Donuts Blog that you can use Dunkin Donuts products to make.

I was curious to know how a new donut makes it onto the store shelves…

CHEF HEIDI:

We a culinary R&D team that is comprised of chefs and pastry chefs, food scientists, research and development technologists and we all come together to come up with these ideas. We’re always looking at trends and flavor trends. Trying to understand what our consumers want and trying to put ourselves in our consumers shoes so that we can come up with a variety of products for our consumers. For example a brand new flavor for a donut.

A perfect example of this would be the croissant donut they recently released, which I love!

What is the best way to eat a Dunkin’ Donut?

CHEF HEIDI:

Why fresh of course! We encourage our customers to eat our donuts fresh as soon as you buy them. All our donuts are made fresh each day.

We then discussed how you can make chocolate truffles with Dunkin’ Donuts Lattes and Coffees!

CHEF HEIDI:

One of the things we’re focusing on is teaching our guests that you can use our products to cook at home with all these amazing variety of flavors we offer with our iced coffees. One flavor we have out Dunkin’ Donuts White Chocolate Raspberry Flavored Latte. You can make some amazing truffles with this. It’s an extremely simple to make recipe and it’s made with the Latte and two other ingredients. Chocolate and Graham Cracker. That’s it. The latte not only helps to make the truffle, but it delivers that wonderful flavor with every bite.

It was so amazing to learn from her all the great ways you can incorporate Dunkin’ Donuts into your at home recipes.

These truffles were perfect for Valentine’s Day.

Recipe type: Dessert
Serves: 9
Ingredients
  • 1 Small Dunkin’ Donuts White Chocolate Raspberry Flavored Latte
  • 1 lb. chocolate (semi-sweet or milk)
  • 1 box graham crackers, crushed
  • Decorations – Have fun with it! We used:
  • Chopped Nuts
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Colored Decorative Sprinkles
  • Chocolate Shavings
Instructions
  1. Using a food processor, pulse the graham crackers until they are finely crushed.
  2. Melt the chocolate in a heat proof bowl, over a double boiler. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted.
  3. Add the Dunkin’ Donuts White Chocolate Raspberry Latte to the melted chocolate, stirring to incorporate.
  4. Remove the chocolate mixture from the heat.
  5. Add the crushed graham cracker to the chocolate / latte mixture, stir well.
  6. Place the truffle mixture into the refrigerator to cool slightly. This allows the mixture to set. It will take approximately 30 minutes.
  7. Once the Truffle Mixture has set, using a melon baller or spoon, form the truffles into small, bite-sized pieces.
  8. Roll each truffle in the decorations / coating of your choice. Serve and enjoy!
These truffles make a great gift for any holiday/family gathering. You can choose any flavored latte you prefer. You can also use a small Dunkin’ Hot Chocolate, any flavor of your choice instead of a latte to make your truffles.  You could even make these for Easter! You can have fun decorating your truffles as well.

I also picked up some heart donuts of course for our Valentine’s Day dessert bar. I added some more sprinkles to them as I love me some sprinkles of course.
