Hey All!
It’s hard to believe that the holidays are already here! I love this time of year as it allows me to spend time with my family. As Thanksgiving quickly approaches, I often reflect on how we like to spend our Thanksgiving.
It’s always been a family tradition to wake up and watch all our favorite Holiday Shows on television. We then like to start cooking early as we like to start eating early. We are one of those families that likes to eat all day on Thanksgiving. It’s the one day where we make dishes that we don’t have often. We don’t make the traditional Thanksgiving foods. We make pastelillos aka empanadas and…
Arros con gandules and often times we make Pernil aka roasted pork thigh. We do make Turkey, but it’s not seasoned in a traditional way. We put olives, garlic, and sazon to season our turkey. We can’t forget that we also make Pan De Muerto and cheesecakes.
Besides the food, seeing all the family we don’t get to see year round is one of the best parts of Thanksgiving. I love having a house that is filled with laughter and chatter over our family recipes. It’s nice to have that love and support in our house for the holiday.
Through the voice of real people and families JCPenney has chosen real choir singer, boys and girls, to be part of the JCPenney choir and help tell the stories of their multicultural families and how they experience holidays in the US. They wanted to share the spirit of Christmas – the real spirit that lives in Latino homes in the US, a celebration of real-life Holiday traditions. I put my turkey on to cook in the morning and go to work. When I come home my house smells wonderful and then I make my side dishes. The kids and husband watch the parade and football and christmas movies all day and snack on meats and cheeses. We are thousands of miles away from our loved ones but we make the day special by serving all the favorite family dishes from when my husband and I were growing up.

i spend it with my family.
We go to my hubby’s aunts house with all the extended family for a big meal.
Like most families we are scattered across the country, so the extent of celebrating with many of our relatives is not much more than mailing them a present or card and maybe a phone call on Christmas day. For the members of the family that live in the area we all celebrate individually with our households and then get together at one of our homes later in the day for a traditional family meal.
i usually Having dinner with my family
Dinner with my family. Thats amazing party. Dance, drinks and to much food.
We spend Thanksgiving at home.
I always spend my Thanksgiving cooking! Even on the one year that my oldest daughter decided she was going to host Thanksgiving, she asked if I could come over to her house and stay Wednesday night to “help” – I STILL did all of the cooking (except for the two dishes she normally cooks and brings over on Thanksgiving) – But then I get to have my family and friends over and see how much they appreciate the yumminess, and we’re all so happy to be together – it’s all worth it!
We always go to my Grandparent’s house.
It depends on the year. This year I had my thanksgiving dinner with just my husband and some Mexican food. It was fun.
