If you are a fan of the amazing films Ponyo or Princess Mononoke then you won’t want to miss The Secret World of Arrietty, based on Mary Norton’s The Borrowers books is coming out in theaters on February 17 thanks to Disney! I had the amazing opportunity to see this fabulous film some months ago while on a Disney Blogger trip and I have to say it really is an amazing film! Even if you’re not a huge fan of Japanese Animation and you’ve never seen the movie Ponyo, I can assure you this story will captivate you and your children. Yes I believe it’s a great film for the whole family to see!
This film is about a family of tiny people who live under floorboards and they come from a group of tiny people called borrowers. They live by “borrowing” small items and tiny rations of food from peoples homes. So when something mysteriously vanishes in your home, it just may be that a Borrower has borrowed it! This film tells the story of an unlikely friendship between a young female “borrower” named Arrietty who befriends a human boy called Shawn. Against her parents wishes she befriends the boy who is sickly with a heart condition and their friendship proves to be a life changing experience for both of them. Their friendship ultimately causes the Borrowers to have to leave their home in fears of being discovered and killed by the Adult humans. I won’t give away the whole story, but I will say it’s a great story about not judging a book by it’s cover and it can teach kids compassion and understanding things that are different aren’t always bad. It’s a beautifully animated film as well.
This film also stars the voices of some amazing actors like one of my all time favorites Carol Burnett and the hilarious Amy Poehler and Will Arnett. I highly recommend you go out and see this fantastic film when it comes out!
Also check out this exclusive clip that’s only for us Bloggers who got to see it back in September!

My younger daughter and I already have a standing date to see this movie. I”m so glad to read here that it’s a great story, since sometimes those kiddie movies are a drag for the parents. Thanks!
Do you think a 5 year old would like it? I am always looking for movies she will like that won’t bore me to tears.

We loved this movie. My daughter and I will always remember it cause she got to interview Bridgit Mendler (voice of Arrietty!)
Not that I’m wanting my college-aged daughter to rush anything, but when she has kids I look forward to taking my grandkids on such outings
This looks like it will be a fun movie to watch with the kids.
