Ally Maki Talks About The Importance of Her Character Giggle McDimples In Toy Story 4!

Hey All!

If you were obsessed with Polly Pocket growing up (like I was), You’re sure going to fall in love with the new Disney Pixar character we meet in Toy Story 4 called Giggle McDimples! She’s my absolute favorite next to Forky and the first Asian American female Pixar character! She’s probably smallest but mightiest Toy Story character ever! Giggles was inspired by Polly Pocket toys and even has her own little house compact in the film. She’s Bo Peep’s sidekick in the film and is voiced by the amazingly fun actress Ally Maki. You may know her from the awesome shows Wrecked or Cloak & Dagger. I recently had the amazing opportunity to meet Ally and chat with her about everything from Toy Story 4 to her upcoming wedding. She was an absolute delight to meet and chat with! She truly is the embodiment of Giggles!

Before you ask, yes she laughs a lot just like Giggle McDimples in the movie! She has a loud infectious laugh and she thinks it’s what partly got her the role. She shared how the casting director of Toy Story 4 saw a YouTube video she created some time ago and thought she was the perfect fit for Giggles after seeing it. She received a letter in the mail asking her to be a part of the film. The letter she said was incredible “literally” as it had a letterhead with The Incredibles family on top. The letter also came with a big box complete with all the Pixar films, and a binder with early concept art of Giggles and of Toy Story 4 that she still has.

Ally:
“I used to be very self conscious about my laugh because it was so loud, but I think it got me the role!”

She also was an avid collector of Polly Pockets growing up, so she felt this role was meant for her. I was obsessed with Polly Pocket as well as a child and we bonded over that shared love. There is a romance that Giggles mentions she has with another toy in the film, that I don’t want to spoil for you. You’ll know what I’m talking about when you see the film, but I had to ask Ally if the folks at Pixar shared any backstory or details about that relationship she just randomly mentions in the film. I literally asked her to share the tea because I just needed to know!

Ally:

“Girl if I had the tea I would tell you! They never told me. I have no idea, but I would love to know too! There should be a Pixar short about that romance!”

I love Ally and can we talk about the Giggle painted on her nail!

Ally also shared how she’s incredibly proud to play a small female character that truly showcases you can be and do anything you want to be.

Ally:

“Size does not matter, you can be anything you want to be! Through Giggles I have learned to be more confident and I’ve learned to embrace who I am. It matters for the next generation to see these type of women.”

She hopes kids seeing the film really get that message from her character. Playing a character in a Pixar film was a dream come true for her and so is being a role model to a new generation of young asian women. Maki is the founder of the Asian American Girl Club. It’s an apparel company that showcases and promotes building up strong modern Asian American woman.

Lastly, she felt like she was having the best night of her life at the Toy Story 4 premiere. She was wearing a custom tailored amazing mens yellow suit, that had to be flown in for her. The night became an epic night to remember when her boyfriend proposed to her at the hotel she was staying at after the premiere.

Ally:
“Everyone apparently at Disney and who worked on the film knew about the engagement! I had no idea. I was trying to figure out what was going on. I thought the hotel had just put roses all over the floor and was treating us so well. I had no idea!”

She’s looking forward to planning her wedding and then becoming a mom! She shared she’d like to join the mom blogger crew and we couldn’t be happier to welcome her to the club! She’s already got her Instagram game on point! She’ll surely be a master at Mom Blogging. I can’t wait to see what’s next for Ally Maki and Giggle McDimples!
