Day 2 of Our Disney Movie Marathon With Some Disney Classics Out 8/21! #Disney #Movie #Review

Hey All!

Tonight we’re continuing our Disney Movie Classic marathon with a quadruple feature of the The Rescuers and The Rescuers Down Under, The Aristocats, and POCAHONTAS & POCAHONTAS II: Journey to a New World!

Pocahontas was one of on my favorite movies growing up! I even went to the premiere of it in Central Park in NYC back in 1995!!! God I’m old!

I think it’s amazing that these Disney classics will be avaliable on Blu-ray tomorrow August 21st! It’s digitally remastered and comes with both films! I’m going to have the kids singing “just around the river bend” tonight!

The 3-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack of Pocahontas and Pocahontas II features:

  • Drawing Inspiration: The Lost Story of Hiawatha – During the 1940’s, Walt Disney and his team were developing a full-length animated feature called “Hiawatha.” During the early stages of development for “Pocahontas,” the directors found the “Hiawatha” storyboards and were amazed at what they saw. It directly influenced their development of “Pocahontas.” Now, for the first time ever, the full story of Walt Disney’s “Hiawatha” will be presented by “Pocahontas” co-director Eric Goldberg and animation historian Charles Solomon.
  • Deleted Song: “If I Never Knew You” – Pocahontas co-director Eric Goldberg introduces this fully animated deleted song, now in hi def. Optional audio commentary with co-directors Eric Goldberg & Mike Gabriel and producer James Pentecost.

If you’ve never seen Pocahontas and Pocahontas 2 where have you been! But here is a little bit about the film.

“Pocahontas” tells the story of a free-spirited girl (voiced by Irene Bedard) who wonders what adventures wait “Just Around the River Bend.” Pocahontas – along with her playful pals Meeko the raccoon and Flit the hummingbird – relies on the guidance of her loving and wise Grandmother Willow (voice by Linda Hunt) when English settlers arrive on the shores of her village. Her meeting with the courageous Captain John Smith (voiced by Mel Gibson) leads to a friendship that bridges the gap between two cultures and changes history.

Pocahontas won Academy Awards® for both “Best Original Score” and “Best Song – “Colors of the Wind” 1995.  The film also earned a Grammy Award® for “Best Song” (“Colors of the Wind,” 1996). Who doesn’t love that song! My kids knew this song before they ever saw the movie just by me singing it!

Next up will be The Rescuers and The Rescuers Down Under!

It’s the 35th anniversary of this classic film can you believe it!

The exciting tale takes place in the heart of Paris where a kind and eccentric millionairess, wills her entire estate to ‘Duchess,’ a high society cat, and her three kittens. When the bumbling butler Edgar tries to pull off the ultimate catnap caper in order to secure the fortune for himself, it’s up to alley cat Thomas O’Malley and his band of swingin’ jazz cats to save the day. “The Aristocats” features the voice talents of Eva Gabor, Phil Harris, Sterling Halloway and legendary French singer Maurice Chevalier, who performs the film’s titular opening song. The legendary Disney songwriting team of brothers, Richard and Robert Sherman, get the joint jumping with the jazz-inspired musical numbers “Ev’rybody Wants To Be A Cat,” “Scales and Arpeggios,” and “Thomas O’Malley Cat.”

Bonus Features include:

  • Deleted Song – “She Never Felt Alone”: This deleted song, complete with animation, will tug at the heartstrings of any animal lover, as Duchess explains to Thomas O’ Malley why she must return to her beloved owner Madame Bonfamille. Richard Sherman discusses the song he co-wrote with his brother Robert, which captures the special relationship between a pet owner and their animal. It’s a moving sequence that will stir everyone’s fondest memories of their favorite pets.

In the ensuing fight, the gang is fooled into beating up Lucifer and making Figaro the winner. But the victor is soon put back in the tub by Minnie.

It’s been forever and a day since we’ve seen any of these films, so it’s so amazing to get the opportunity to share some of them for the first time with my family!

I highly recommend you run out tomorrow and get these amazing films and have your own Disney Classic Move Nights!
