Hey All!
As far as I can remember, I have always loved Disney’s Aladdin from the first time I saw it. I was obsessed with it as a child. I had all the toys and the soundtrack tape in my walkman at all times. For those of you her are youngings reading this and don’t know what a walkman is, It’s what we used to listen to music on before iPods and smart phones were invented. Even when I go to Disneyland, I always go see the Aladdin Show and eat at Aladdin’s Oasis. I cried when I found out the Aladdin show would be ending this January. I really connected to Aladdin in some strange way. I think I really embraced the underdog story being a kid growing up in the projects of NYC. I wanted to make something of myself and have people see me as more than just some poor little Latina girl.
This was essentially my life story, except there was a magical Genie, Musical Numbers, and a love story. Heck that could explain why I always break out into musical numbers. Revelations are happening folks!
I used to break out into full on musical productions of Aladdin in my Grandmother’s living room. You can see one of those numbers in the picture below.
I would sing and dance all the musical numbers from Aladdin. My favorite song to perform was “A Whole New World”. Heck I still love singing it to this day. I force my husband to sing the Aladdin party. I used to sing it to the top of my lungs and sometimes I would do it in the middle of the night and wake up the whole family.
When I was a kid, I used to surround myself with all my Aladdin toys and perform. Now, I surround myself with my family when I perform. OK… I may dress one of them up like the Genie from time to time. Does anyone remember that Genie toy that came inside his lamp? He was like a stuffed doll that could be smashed down to fit into a lamp that looks kind of like the one in the picture below. That was my most favorite Aladdin toy. I still have it and all of my Aladdin toys some where in storage.
Aladdin brought me so much joy as a child and it still brings me joy today. I’m so happy to have had the opportunity to cover the release of the Diamond Edition Blu-ray coming out today! I’m so glad it’s back and better than ever for a whole new generation to enjoy.
I’m happy it will continue to bring joy to my family for generations to come!
